one more exam

Hey everyone;

There is one more exam standing in between me and summer and it is SO difficult to study for it! You think it would be easy considering that the three essay topics were given to us (and we only have to write on two of them), as well as the fact that after its done summer is here -- that should MOTIVATE me...

alas, it doesnt.

I have been seeing so many of my favourite people lately. I have been spending a lot of time with friends who I may not see all summer, and thats nice.

Anyways -- as much as I am looking forward to summer I will miss the non living with family part of it -- however, i miss my family. Can't have it both ways!

Here is to an incredible, fun-filled summer.

In Addition...

In addition... I got a smoothie from Baskin Robbins and the guy (who has known me since I was three) made me a sugar-free smoothie instead of the regular one.. and charged me less. It just made life that much better.

"have you seen my classmate?"

Hello!!

Today is BEAUTIFUL... I am quite content this afternoon, unlike this morning and all of yesterday.

Stupid yesterday, I won't waste too much time on it but basically I have to get my wisdom teeth out and had a pointless consultation (where they thought I was an emergency) due to a misunderstanding... and then had to leave Toronto in rush hour. It sounds not bad.. but with all the pain and looking in my mouth for three hours and x-rays and moulds it was awful. I promise.

But, putting all that aside, other than waking up at 6am this morning, life is good. I went to my new job and got lots of the forms filled out -- I went to my Mom's school and had lunch with her and played secretary and then I came home and went for a walk.

The cutest part was when I was just heading to my Mom's school and I was walking up the drive and a kid comes up to me and goes "ms. principal's daughter... have you seen my classmate?" and I was like "no... why?" Turns out, the kid had "lost" his friend who had to go to the bathroom. Poor guy he was really worried, but I thought it was quite hilarious that he chose to ask me instead of the teachers outside. Anyways, we found her, she had gone back to class, but it was a cute moment.

I'm heading outside to study mood disorders and suicide -- I'm hoping the sunlight will counteract the morose topic. Hope all is well and none of you have had disastrous dentist appointments lately.

*shrugs* i dunno

I am not sure how I feel today or right now... I'm all snuggled up in a sweater... that means a lot to me. Let's just say that it is not my sweater and is not a sweater of anyone who is currently a part of my life. It is a sweater that holds a lot of memories and a sweater that (apparently) makes me feel comforted.

For some reason today I am just exteremely overwhelmed by school and relationships and I really want to be alone... which I am. I just have to get moving cause these exams are not going to write themselves tomorrow (wouldn't that be nice) and I have absolutely no idea how to study for them. . . .

Went to exclusively women's with Dana this morning and got a free week pass as well as like an hour long talk about memberships and stuff when all I wanted to do was go back to the apartment and study HOWEVER.. i may join up in September. The lady told us we might as well pay the overall fee now and then just activate our membership in September which makes sense to me but Dana was kind of thinking that there is no way they are going to quote us one thing now and then make us pay a different fee in September. . . but whatever.

I am going to call my parents tonight and ask for their opinion about it.

Usually I don't mind days like this where I feel lethargic and I'm tired and I just want to be all cuddly and warm (never usually in this sweater though). This is a sweater I dig out when I can't deal with things .... its really ironic. I would say more but I'm afraid to overshare on the internet as so many do.

Haha.. regardless.. I must get working... despite the fact I feel like falling asleep instead of working and potentially falling apart.

PS: I've come to the conclusions that my headaches are from too much caffiene. *shrugs*

I dunno.

Just a note...

If you haven't read the one below with the video please also do so -- its more important than what is below.

I reached my Kids Help Phone fundraising goal today!!! $500. So naturally, I set a new one. I'm only 75$ away from my goal now! If you can contribute anything it would be awesome and make a child's life that much more hopeful. I called Kids Help Phone once when I was little, and it made a huge difference. That's why I'm so invested in the walk. Any bit of support will help!

Possibly of Interest

So, I don't usually post like activist awareness things on here, however, this has come to my attention and I think its worthy of taking a look by us all. If you feel as strongly as I did by what you hear in the video then the complaint URL's are at the bottom.

On April 1st, the The Late Show with David Letterman aired Dave's Top Ten, which were, "Messages left on the pregnant man's answering machine."

The list was about Thomas Beatie, a transgendered man who kept his female reproductive organs during his transition. Mr. Beatie recently made headlines when he revealed that he was pregnant.

The list portrayed Mr. Beatie and other transgendered people as freak shows. As number one was revealed, it became apparent that it was exactly what they were trying to do: "Michael Jackson here -- just wanted to reach out to another androgynous freak show."

While some may claim that it was just in good fun, "jokes" around skin colour would have been just as offensive during the civil rights movement for black people. With LGBT/queer people still fighting for rights and social acceptance, comments like those on The Late Show, are nothing more than tasteless and offensive. If being offensive was not the intention of Mr. Letterman and The Late Show, then they were being downright insensitive to an issue that causes countless teens to commit suicide every year, and many others to face harassment, assault, and just as recently as Lawrence King, murder.

the simple things...

Today was a really good day... despite the fact that I have still not started working, thats about to change right after this post is published.. i promise!

Lately there have been a lot of the simple things in my life that have made me happy and reminded me how good things can be...

1. Breakfast out: Today Matt and I went to grab breakfast at the Ido Cafe around the corner from my house.. it cost us 14$ and we got pancakes, bacon, homefries, three eggs (total not each), toast and fruit plus an orange juice and coffee. It was sweet! I loved having breakfast it just felt so special.
2. Little neighbourhood hangouts: This is what the Ido Cafe is to me -- its a place where I've been hanging out for a long time and its just such a simple family owned restaurant that serves such great food and has such great people. Chances are I know someone who is eating there and thats so awesome.
3. Driving around: Despite the negative impact on the environment sometimes its just so great to be in the car and talk. Matt had his driving test so we were practicing and driving around for a couple hours.
4. Seeing someone else accomplish something they really want: I love Love LOVE celebrating with other people and congratulating them -- its amazing to see people's successes and I love being a bystander and helping them celebrate. Yes, Matt got his G.
5. Being silly: Sometimes just being a fool is so much fun.
6. Interacting with Strangers: Some strangers are bad yes, but when you engage with people, like the hairstylist who did his haircut today or the pregnant lady in line who is having her eighth child tomorrow or the man at the post office or Sue the woman at the drive centre, or even the mom who is waiting for her child at the drive center you learn SO much about people... and its so much more real than the superficial contact our generation seems to be stuck in on a daily basis.
7. Looking at old photos: I love this... its so simple but it can bring back so many memories.. and when they are not your photos you can learn a lot about the other persons hopes and dreams.. it speaks volumes. Also, if you stop to wonder about the passerbys who get in the way of the photo like where they are now it gives you such great thoughts and lets your imagination run wild.
8. Walking the dog: Dogs are so cool... I've totally become a dog person in the last week. You learn so much about your environment when you go for a walk.. and you interact with many people. Plus, its just so awesome to walk with someone and the dog and chat and... yay simplicity.
9. Music: enough said.

Anyways, today was filled with the simplicities of life and I feel refreshed and renewed. Just thought I'd share. <3 you all.

Back! (with sniffles...)

Hey all;

New York City = amazing. It was really a great weekend... bonding time with my Mom and sightseeing in New York. I love traveling because I can just explore and be myself and it was fabulous to be going places and getting along with my Mom and seeing things.

Anyways, it seems crazy that I was there because I am now back and in class and sick, although happy.

I really love the way I feel when I travel and when I get back and I love exploring new places. Anyways, we saw a great deal of sights. Friday was the statue of liberty and times square and ground zero (World Trade Center site) and wall street, battery park and the museum of native Americans. We saw Rent that night as well.

The next day we walked the opposite direction up Fifth Avenue and saw the Metropolitan Museum of Art and St. Patricks Cathedral and all the big stores and Central Park. That night we saw Spring Awakening which was really different and interesting.

Sunday we saw the Modern Museum of Art and a different part of NYC, less touristy around 54th and 8th. Then we saw a Matinee of Sunday in the Park with George. So many things that we did in such a short time.

Well, thats about it. I wanted to share a couple of my favourite pictures (there are a gajillion on facebook so if you have me as a friend there just look them all up). I'm outie now, decided that being sick is no excuse for being lazy around the house all day.. perhaps running errands will make me feel better.

Lates dudes and dudettes..

Amalia

PS: Here's a video from FAO Schwartz BIG PIANO!.

I think my favourite part is when the guy at the end goes "oh! Haha!"
